Aqua Vitae Gallery is pleased to present ENTERING, a two-person exhibition featuring work by Annabell P. Lee and Kevin Pomerleau Inspired by the landscape and lived experiences of Western Massachusetts, the exhibition brings together painting and printmaking to explore the ways place shapes memory, identity, and emotional life.
Kevin Pomerleau's printmaking practice explores place, memory, and identity through images of domestic interiors, textiles, the body, nostalgic icons, and regional landscapes. Drawing from his experience growing up in Western Massachusetts, his work examines class, queerness, intimacy, and belonging while reflecting on how the Pioneer Valley is shaped by migration, demographic change, and evolving ideas of what it means to be local.
For Annabell P. Lee painting becomes a way of translating emotion through observation. The works presented in ENTERING are oil paintings created en plein air along the Connecticut River and around her home in Hadley. After moving to a house overlooking the river, Lee found herself inspired by her surroundings, producing landscapes that are vibrant, whimsical, and deeply personal. Rather than depicting scenery alone, her paintings function as emotional portraits -expressing an inner world through color, movement, and the changing landscape.
